R&D Director Coatings

The organisation

Our client is active in Asia, Middle East, and North Africa regions. The Company has established its businesses and manufacturing units in all these regions and employs 400 people. They manufacture a wide variety of paints and coatings, including automotive OEM, auto-refinish, architectural, industrial, road safety, and protective coatings. The Company has achieved a strong positions in some of its markets in the OEM automotive segment while it now seeks to aggressively build positions in the protective, industrial, and architectural coatings segments.

The position

The selected candidate would be expected to leverage his technical expertise and managerial experience with a leading global company to build the company’s technical and R&D capability and bring the function in line with international standards.

We therefore are interested in candidates who identify themselves with the following skills:

• Leadership, management, and training of the technical and R&D lab teams to enhance their technical capability and effectiveness and achieve excellence in the R&D function.
• Lead & drive the idea generation and evaluation process in cooperation with all relevant functions and derive proposals for R&D projects.
• Continuous evaluation and induction of viable new technologies and innovation to provide value addition to the organization’s product and services portfolio.
• Development and provision of technical solutions for existing and new product development projects from raw materials to formulation design and production.
• Work closely with business partners and customers, and actively identify new product development and innovation opportunities.

Candidate profile

• You are experienced in Research and Development in the coatings segment and want to take up a challenge in Asia.
• Approximately 25 years of experience in the R&D function with leading global coatings company with demonstrated leadership qualities to manage and lead an R&D team to deliver product and services as per agreed timelines.
• PhD in polymers with at least 20-25 years of R&D experience in paint and coatings with a minimum of 15 years hands-on experience.
• Strong curiosity and passion in scientific and product development work.
• Fluency in spoken and written English is required, including strong project management & presentation skills.
• Willing to move to Asia for a few years.
