Headhunter
Jurczik DeBlauw for Pryme

The organisation

Pryme is a chemical recycling company that has developed a special technology to convert non-recyclable waste plastics into chemicals. After successful commissioning of a testing plant in Germany, the first commercial production plant will be built in 2021/2022. Pryme has developed a scalable business model. Upon completion, commissioning and successful operation of this first plant (1 line), several standard plants (4 lines) and a Mega Plant (12 lines) will be built. Pryme has the wish to grow globally once the first milestones have been met.

Funding for the first plant has been secured at the beginning of 2021. In addition, feedstock has been secured and permits are in place for the new to be built plant. At the moment the engineering phase is due, consequently the construction phase will follow in 3 to 4 months. Cold commissioning of the plant is expected to take place in March 2022.

Pryme offers the missing link in the current non-recyclable plastic value chain that connects fast moving consumer goods with petrochemicals. Their innovative Cleantech company has developed a scalable businessmodel with a scope of international expansion. The feedstock of the first plant has been secured and permits are place. Pryme offers a unique opportunity for the Plant Manager to contribute to one of the most innovative companies of the circular economy and to make her/his mark during the Design, Engineering and Construct phase.

The position

What started in 2006 as research and development of a technology to recycle the current non-recyclable waste plastics into chemicals grew into the first commercial production plant to recycle PS, PE and PP plastics. Research and Development led to the first test with a 5L reactor in 2011. As of 2014 the pilot plant has been developed and tested for production. After successful funding via Euronext Growth (Merkur Market) the detailed design and construct phase has been kicked-off.On the eve of the construction, as Plant Manager and ‘future operational owner’ / end user of this facility, you will co-determine the input for the design and construction of this production plant. Your input will determine how successful 'your' factory will operate in the nearby future. An international contractor has been hired for this EPC-project.

You will be the sparring partner for the Build Director during Engineering and Construction phase and will contribute with your vision of O&M in order to optimise the design of the plant and mitigate O&M costs. Taking the lead in the design of operating and safety procedures is common sense to you. In addition, you will be in charge of quality checks.

After commissioning, you will be responsible for providing leadership along with daily oversight, direction, and guidance to operations and maintenance within the plant. We expect you to ensure the best-in-class availability of the plant. You will be part of the plant management team and will report to the CEO.

You will start off with a small team that includes external hires from PlantOne Rotterdam. As the operations activities grow, you will ensure a thorough staffing policy that enables smooth operation and availability of the plant. You will be in charge of recruitment of a team that will finally comprise approximately 20 people. In addition, you will be in charge of 3rd party contracting.

The Plant Manager’s responsibility is expected to grow with the expansion of (inter)national plants. The future role will comprise setting policy for and supporting the start-up of new plants.

The role will be based in the Rotterdam Botlek area.

Candidate profile

As experienced Plant Manager you have a strong appetite for technique and management. You have the drive to contribute to one of the most innovative companies of the circular economy and are able to make your mark during the Design, Engineering and Construct phase.

Suitable candidates will have the following profile:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a technical subject.
  • Experience as Plant Manager with Operations and Maintenance knowledge in the (petro)chemical industry. Experience in the plastics or recycling industry is a plus.
  • Adequate knowledge of business and management principles such as: budgeting, strategic planning, resource allocation and human resources.
  • Solution-oriented mindset and ‘continuous improvement’ is a second nature.
  • Able to act as figurehead and a charismatic people-manager.
  • Should fit in a start-up environment, no-nonsense, pragmatic and comfortable in a down-to-earth company culture.
  • Proficient in the English language. Dutch is a plus.
