The organisation

Our client, Kemira is a global company providing solutions, chemicals and expertise to water intensive industries around the world. Kemira has 60 plants around the world, one of which is in Botlek. Here they produce monomers (AMD), plus a number of derived products for a broad range of applications, such as water purification, paper production and oil drilling. In total, Kemira Botlek produces over 175 SKU’s for over 1000 customers worldwide. Recently, Kemira has invested over 60M€ in the Botlek plant, resulting in 2 new production units being built now, one of them a Bio Acrylamide plant.

The position

For Kemira Botlek, we are looking for a Plant/Site Manager.

Tasks & responsibilities

The primary focus of this senior role is to provide leadership to the site management team, ensuring safe and efficient operations of the manufacturing activities at the site. As a side role you are Managing Director for Kemira Rotterdam B.V. (160 fte), which includes collaboration with the Unions & Works Council and leading the Rotterdam Management Team for the Botlek and Europoort sites.

Most important is the role of Plant Manger, where you will have overall responsibility for the Botlek site manufacturing activities, including EHSQ, Planning, Engineering, Projects, Logistics and Maintenance. This comprises about 100 employees. Critical success factors are: Safe and Environmentally responsible operations, change management, driving continuous operational improvements, create and implement initiatives to meet current and future safety, regulatory, environmental, quality and productivity targets. One of the major success factors is creating a culture of employee engagement, accountability and delivering results. Especially starting up the new factories and bringing them up to the specified performance / OPEX with your team is a challenge.

The Botlek site is a BRZO (high incident risk) site and you will co-ordinate the community interaction and participate in the out of hours call out rota for the off-site Emergency Plan. 

You are reporting into the Vice President of Manufacturing Polymers.

Candidate profile

You hold at least a Bachelor Degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or relevant technical subject area. You have proven senior leadership with the ability to develop people, with a strong manufacturing experience, gained in the Chemical or Process Industries. You have process safety leadership knowledge, a high level of business acumen, analytical skills with application of LEAN tools. You are a strong and inspiring leader, with good communication skills with the ability to motivate and influence others, Management By Walking Around. You are able to excel in an independent role within an international company.
