Senior Payroll Manager Germany (m/f)

The position

The Payroll Manager for Germany manages the Payroll office in Munich, to ensure timely preparation and accurate cost distribution of the client´s salaries. This also includes the timely calculation, reporting and payments of payroll related benefits, taxes, social security payments, statistics and other information which needs to be provided to 3rd parties or internal other departments. This requires an hands-on mentality as well as a project management way of thinking to raise the bar for the German payroll team.

The German Payroll Manager will report to the EU Payroll manager, who is based in Luxembourg and will be managing a small team on-site and has a dotted line connection to the HR Operations team working at the locations across Germany.

Germany is growing and this is an exciting role for somebody who wants to develop the payroll department and help it grow to the next level. There are many projects on-going which will give exposure to working with other international colleagues on exciting projects. The client has its own Global payroll group and for the right person, who is driven and dedicated, there are many opportunities to grow and develop on international level.

Major responsibilities

  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation of the monthly payrolls and work closely with HR Corporate, HR Operations, Stock, Mobility and Accounting to ensure that payroll actions are in compliance with employment, benefit practice, local tax and social security legislation and accounting standards. Payroll processing varies significantly during in our peak period
  • Review, develop and enhance current metrics data and work with the partner departments to improve data quality for both the German payroll team and the management reports
  • Critically review and analyze current payroll, benefits and tax procedures in order to recommend and implement changes leading to best-practice operations
  • Increase automation. Work with our 3rd party vendors and partner departments to develop, test and implement automation
  • Implement new companies either through acquisition and or new set up, for the German region but also for other countries
  • Work with the EU payroll manager to centralize standard payroll processes
  • Ensure compliance with SOX and Internal Audit regulations
  • Participation in business re-engineering activities to support acceptance, implementation and increase effectiveness for the payroll team. This includes working with several project teams across the globe
  • Ensure on-going training for the payroll team
  • Potential back up for the EU payroll manager (based in Luxembourg)
  • Provide back and assistance in other countries

Required job skills

  • At least 4 years experience as a German Payroll Manager
  • Experience with managing a payroll team
  • Experience in automated accounting/payroll systems required
  • Accounting knowledge
  • ADP Paisy knowledge
  • PeopleSoft knowledge (is an advantage)
  • Budget responsibilities
  • Fluent in English (spoken and written)
  • Good knowledge of excel, word and power point
  • Project experience (is an advantage)
  • Strong in commitments and meeting deadlines
  • Willing to travel
  • Hands on mentality
