The position

The Managing Director is responsible for five different sites (240 fte), distributed over 5 locations in the Netherlands. He/she will lead and expand the business in the Netherlands and will strive to exceed business expansion and profitability goals.

He or she reports directly to the Regional Division Leader. 

Tasks & responsibilities

  • P&L responsible for the organization and overall management of the organization (the Netherlands);
  • Develop the Business Units activities through growth with the objective of a minimum 15% organic growth per year;
  • Further develop the sales process with the implementation of corporate IT tools and ensure the relations with the clients are good and efficient;
  • Develop the local strategy to grow the business and offer new service upon strategic opportunities;
  • Improve operations and streamline the operational processes and make good use of IT so as to achieve high efficiency;
  • Improve the technical and scientific aspects of the business units by ensuring the appropriate development and application of new techniques and business processes;
  • Prepare and propose annual budget and 3 years mid-term plan;
  • Hire, motivate, develop and retain excellent managers and employees;
  • Define and agree goals and milestones with your team(s) and ensure goals are defined and communicated to their respective teams. Set up customer centric Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to monitor progress. Follow up as appropriate and become hands on if required to ensure achievement of goals;
  • Building teams; inspire and empower employees and strategy; run the country business and develop the busines;
  • Maintain Customer satisfaction, including internal customers.

Candidate profile

The ideal candidate is energetic, innovative, result driven and has a passion to win. He or she is highly intelligent, numerate with business acumen and at the same time demonstrates empathy for others, using strong interpersonal skills. The organization looks for people with a fast track career until now but have not yet reached their full potential and still have the burning hunger/drive to excel. The position offered should be a challenge and a clear progress from the current role. The Managing Director needs to be a hardworking hands-on, action-orientated leader with common sense who can inspire and motivate his or her employees and has excellent understanding of financial matters. He or she works effectively in a process driven environment, has demonstrated financial success and has been responsible for the business he or she has developed. The ideal candidate has also a start-up spirit.

Requirements: 

  • Master of Sience and a strong academic technical background;
  • Approximately 15 years of successful working experience of which 10 years in the Life Science industry;
  • Service sector experience or experience in a small/ mid-size company operating in a very competitive sector;
  • A minimum of 5 years full P&L responsibility is essential;
  • Able to analyse working methods/business processes, define and drive improvements, combined with a hands-on mentality;
  • An entrepreneurial, business-orientated and customer-orientated spirit and eager to make the next step;
  • Successful experience as an effective people leader with focus on production, re-engineering, cost reduction, teambuilding and team development;
  • Excellent motivational and communication skills with an ability to inspire and lead others;
  • Fluent in Dutch and English.
