Managing Director

Our client provides analytical services for characterisation, assay development, and quality assessment of novel and established medicines, ranging from synthetic molecules and biologics to cell and gene therapies. With over twenty years of experience, they proudly contribute to the medicines of tomorrow by helping customers accelerate their drug development journey. They support startups, biotechs, and large pharmaceutical companies worldwide, from pre-clinical drug development through clinical phases I, II, III, all the way to commercial drugs. In their continued growth, they are seeking a Managing Director.

The position

As Managing Director, you will develop and ensure the achievement of the organisation's strategic objectives. You will translate these objectives into a business plan and manage the preparation, monitoring, and adjustment of the P&L. Acting as an ambassador focused on business development, you will promote the organisation's value proposition and maintain intensive contact with customers and scientific associations. Additionally, you will safeguard the quality, scientific integrity, and ethics of business processes, striving for operational excellence in a customer-intimate environment and continuously exploring opportunities for improvement and development. Lastly, you will build a cohesive team of highly qualified employees and foster close collaboration with the support services and other business units of the larger organisation.

Tasks & responsibilities

• Develop and ensure the achievement of the organisation's strategic objectives.
• Translate strategic objectives into a business plan.
• Manage the preparation, monitoring, and adjustment of the P&L.
• Act as an ambassador focused on business development.
• Promote the organisation's value proposition.
• Maintain intensive contact with customers and scientific associations.
• Safeguard the quality, scientific integrity, and ethics of business processes.
• Strive for operational excellence in a customer-intimate environment.
• Continuously explore opportunities for improvement and development.
• Build a cohesive team of highly qualified employees.
• Foster close collaboration with support services and other business units.

Candidate profile

• MSc or PhD in a relevant scientific field.
• At least ten years of experience in the pharmaceutical and/or biotech sector.
• Extensive experience as a people leader.
• Familiarity with the role of a CRO in the drug development process.
• Good insight into relevant markets and a strong understanding of customer expectations.
• Scientific insights to support the team during development phases.
• CMC experience is highly favoured.
• Open personality with decisiveness, persuasiveness, and strong communication skills.
• Strong team player, coach, and leader.
• Fluent in English and comfortable speaking Dutch.
