The organisation

Our client is a highly innovative, technologically-driven and internationally operating leading company within the energy/chemicals sector that attaches great importance to sustainability, social responsibility and entrepreneurship and that has ambitious growth plans for the future.

For one plant in the Netherlands – Europe’s biggest plant in the niche – our client is looking to recruit an HSEQ Manager who will set up, implement and control all quality, safety and environmental systems and guidelines.

The position

Heading the HSEQ department of the site, the HSEQ Manager will be responsible for managing and further developing the organization in all areas of health, safety, security, environment and quality care to guarantee a safe and effective working environment.

The HSEQ Manager is expected to proactively promote HSEQ awareness and importance throughout the site, and to become a well-respected partner and a resilient authority. The HSEQ Manager is expected to remain up-to-date with legislation about the aforementioned disciplines and to promptly notify all parties involved about any changes to legislation. He/ she will provide support for corporate departments in the communication with authorities, customers and suppliers and initiate and coordinate internal audits. Furthermore the HSEQ Manager will provide and/or coordinate trainings related to quality, safety and environment.

As member of the Management Team and the ‘right hand’ of the Plant Manager, the HSEQ Manager is accountable for the functioning of the site as a whole. The role reports directly to the Plant Manager and has close contact with a large number of internal and external stakeholders in the Netherlands as well as internationally.

The location of this position is in the Rotterdam area in the Netherlands. The candidate is expected to live within one hour travel time from the plant.

Candidate profile

Education             

  • Academic degree in chemical technology or related is mandatory. Additional qualifications such as ‘Safety for Operational Supervisors SCC diploma’ (VCA-VOL) or the like are required.

Background and Experience

  • Minimum of 8 years progressive experience in a similar HSEQ management position preferably in the chemicals sector (specialty chemicals or petrochemicals).
  • Proven knowledge in the area of health, safety, environment and quality, gained at BRZO companies.
  • Expertise related to the regulations, norms and requirements in the field of the Dutch Working Act (Arbo), environment and quality (ISO 14001 and 9001, OHSAS 18001), Seveso (BRZO) and additional knowledge of MVK/ HVK/ MoSHE.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills; experience in directly managing a (small) team and capability to influence people on all levels without formal authority.

Language Proficiency 

Fluency, both oral and written, in Dutch and English is mandatory.Candidates who are not fluent in Dutch will not be considered.
