An international technology leader that designs, develops, manufactures, and markets high-tech products and solutions.

The position

The General Manager will take the lead in driving the growth of the organization. He/she will be responsible for the overall general management of the division, largely focused on medical applications.

With an expected annual minimum of double digit growth, this is one of the fastest growing business units within the organisation. The main locations are stationed in the south-west of the Netherlands (˜100 fte) and Canada (˜25 fte) with additional Sales offices in Asia and the US (˜15 fte). Sales & Marketing, Operations and R&D are the main functional lines in his/her responsibility.

The organisation has grown enormously over the last few years and there is still lots of potential; the General Manager is responsible for turning this potential into results. The organization belongs to a global parent organisation and therefore has access to resources and infrastructure of a large multi-national organisation. In this role, he/she will have significant autonomy to use his/her entrepreneurial and leadership skills. The biggest challenges ahead are management development, growth through business creation (sales but also R&D in order to create sustainable business) and operational excellence. This role will be responsible for creating the future product roadmap to make sure the organization can deliver the growth required.

The General Manager reports directly into the Executive Vice President of the overarching division.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • General management for the division (medical applications) of the organisation with a full P&L responsibility. Mainly responsible for Sales & Marketing, Operations and Research & Development;
  • Drive growth and overall business strategy by providing leading-edge collaborative innovation and a more complete solution to the customer base.
  • Develop the associated product lines and continue their worldwide expansion in terms of revenue generation, increased market share and increased net profit;
  • Management Development - motivate and drive the current leadership team to deliver change. Strategic resource planning to include succession planning and identification of critical skills required to move the organisation forward.
  • Developing Operational Excellence, creating long lasting value for customers and shareholders due to lower operational risk/costs and increased revenue.
  • Drive and build long term Supply Chain Continuous Improvement Programs with key customers in order to improve service while optimizing costs. Ensure understanding of customer needs and reflect them in business processes.
  • Collaborate with sister organisations within the broader parent organisation to deliver synergies and leverage technical expertise.

Candidate profile

The ideal candidate for this job is a robust, seasoned general manager with a high level of energy, drive and resilience. He/she is a real entrepreneur with substantial technical knowledge and possesses a hawk’s eye for strategic business opportunities. 

The ideal candidate will be an inspiring leader with excellent leadership skills, perfectly able to motivate the team, provide a vision for change and support the management team to deliver this. 

The ideal candidate will be familiar with the markets this organisation operates within. Will be experienced in working with demanding customers and long-term sales cycles. He/she is will be agile and flexible and able to move expertly between functional departments (sales, operations, etc.) and hierarchical layers (from engineer to CEO and vice versa).

The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills both written, verbal and non-verbal.

  • A proven track record of delivering results in general management positions with broad responsibility, preferably with an additional background in Operations and/or Business Development.
  • Experience within a large, complex multi-national, fast growing organisation selling complex technologies is essential;
  • Extensive experience within the high tech industry experience within medical environments is a plus;
  • Experience with US companies is a significant benefit
  • Affinity with product roadmap, ability to understand and work with a technical product; experience in engineering and R&D environments; proven leadership in product development cycles, delivering to customer needs;
  • Experience with managing a complex team across Sales, Operations and R&D at multiple sites;
  • Strong analytical skills and strategic skills;
  • Excellent change management skills;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Ideally MSc Technical University, preferably complemented with business education.
