The shift towards a carbon-free future not only requires the adoption of renewable technologies but also a smarter way of managing its unpredictable power output. Sympower uses proprietary technology to unlock the inherent flexibility of electrical assets and processes, balancing supply and demand across international electricity networks. By doing so, Sympower generates new revenue streams for its customers, protects our planet, and accelerates the global transition towards net zero.

When customers connect to Sympower’s platform, the automated software identifies, unlocks, and dispatches the available flexibility in different energy markets. Whenever there is a shortage or surplus of renewable power, the clean-tech scale-up can temporarily control the individual electrical assets of its customers and turn them on, off, up, or down. This maximizes green energy utilization and balances the grid. Sympower’s clients operate in a wide range of energy-intensive industries, including paper and pulp, greenhouses, data centers, metals industry, manufacturing, and cold storage facilities. The scale-up works together with power companies throughout Europe, like Vattenfall and the Finnish Väre.

Founded in 2015, Sympower currently employs over eighty people (with about 25 different nationalities) and has operations in nine different countries including the Netherlands, Sweden, Finland, Norway, and Israel. The company is planning to expand into many more markets in the coming years, among which Germany, Japan, Italy, Greece, and Spain. Sympower is determined to maintain its impressive growth rate by adding new geographies and launching new technologies, all to accelerate the global energy transition and combat climate change. Recently, Sympower joined the B.Corp community. The B Corp label certifies their very high standards for social and environmental performance.

To organize for scale, Sympower is expanding its product teams and is transposing the teams’ orientation from geography to product. Product Managers will get end-to-end responsibility for their products across markets. They will guide their teams and focus their efforts to maximize customer value creation and contribute to Sympower’s business objectives.

The position

Sympower works towards a smarter energy future. The scale-up accelerates the global energy transition through its proprietary platform. Sympower’s technology unlocks flexibility in the energy consumption of their customers and leverages it on the renewable energy markets. The Data Product Manager will leverage data to improve the platform’s effectiveness. A key position at the heart of Sympower’s proposition that powers further development.

Tasks & responsibilities

The main responsibility of the Data Product Manager will be to leverage data (external and generated through the platform) to create new features, enhance the platform’s value, and improve the customer experience. As data underpins every aspect of Sympower’s proposition, the role is key for the company’s growth ambitions and the fulfillment of its mission to maximize renewable energy utilization.

The Data Product Manager will define the product roadmap, prioritize features and capabilities, own the backlog, and align with customers and internal stakeholders. They will co-create and support the roadmap for data infrastructure, integrations, analytics and data science tooling, and testing tools and capabilities. The Data Product Manager will set up data services for internal and external users, ranging from insights from data analytics to automatic machine learning-based forecasting. These services will enable Sympower to fully leverage the flexibility of electrical assets.

The Data Product Manager will lead an experienced and well-equipped team of two Analytics Engineers, a Data Scientist, and a Data Infrastructure Manager. When it comes to managing the team, they will mainly focus on establishing priorities based on business leads and input from customers. The Data Product Manager and their team will work closely with other Product Managers and colleagues from the rest business, for example, with Product Development for whom the data team will contribute to their decision-making process.
