Chief Operations Officer

The organization

For a clinical-stage biotechnology company, we are looking for a Chief Operating Officer (COO). This company is a joint collaboration of a specialised academic group and a world player in the microbiome field, which resulted in the development of a cutting-edge technology platform. Their mission is the development and production of live biotherapeutic products, to unlock the microbiome’s potential in combatting different disease indications.

The position

As Chief Operating Officer (COO) you will be responsible for the management of day-to-day activities and smooth operation of the business. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), this position is of paramount importance to the success and sustainable growth of the organisation.

Tasks & responsibilities

As Chief Operating Officer you will utilise your outstanding managerial, communication, time-management, and negotiation skills to excel in your responsibilities, which are among others:

• Collaborating with the CEO to redefine and implement the strategic plan while ensuring that the budget, staff, and priorities are aligned with the company‘s core goals
• Providing inspirational leadership and direction to all staff members, and ensuring the continued development and management of a professional and efficient organisation
• Overseeing all business planning activities
• Ensuring that the business operates at the strategically accepted revenue growth and profitability level
• Setting and assigning operational goals for all departments to realise the annual targets
• Ensuring that a proper organisational structure is in place for operations
• Establishing effective decision-making processes that will enable the organisation to achieve its long- and short-term goals and objectives
• Determining the strategic direction for operations through the development and regular monitoring of a strategic plan
• Keeping abreast with market trends regarding competition, products, and customer requirements and act as accordingly
• And working closely with the CEO, CSO, and CFO in decision making

Candidate profile

As the ideal COO you will bring the following qualifications and experience:

• At minimum a master’s degree in medicine, pharmacy, or life sciences
• Several years of managerial experience in a CRO environment or a pharmaceutical environment
• Excellent organisational management capabilities with the ability to coach senior-level staff, and to manage and develop high-performance teams
• You have an analytical mindset and strong in decision making skills with the ability to prioritise and communicate to staff key objectives and tactics necessary to achieve organisational goals
• In addition: you are action-oriented, flexible, and bring an innovative approach to operational management
• You possess excellent oral and written English communication skills
• And you bring passion, a positive attitude, you are mission-driven and self-directed
