Our client is an innovative enterprise, owned by a private equity company and a few (founding) shareholders, which started operations in 2005. Our client plays a significant worldwide role in the transition of hearing aids from the medical industry towards consumer electronics, integrating hearing aid functionality in applied consumer technology. With its strong R&D department and the big market potential to sell next generation hearing aid products, significant business expansion is expected for the coming years. The company has evolved beyond the start-up phase and should make the next step to maturity.

Summary of the position

The main task of the CEO is to provide a clear path in which to maintain the company’s growth and to the execute the overall company strategy. The CEO will be responsible for the development and the roll-out of a strategic (business) plan that will bring this company to the next phase of maturity. This plan should include a clear segmentation of the business, the over-the-counter strategy, ways to enter the market and developing new sales channels. To make this strategic plan happen, all other important elements need to be in place as well. Therefore the CEO is also responsible for getting and keeping the right people on board, building relationships with key distributors/agents and partners, and developing a stable and state of the art R&D department equipped for future growth.

Key requirements

The ideal candidate for the position of CEO will have a minimum of 10 years management experience, with a clear footprint in companies that develop and produce technical products. Candidates have at least 3 years of experience in positions like CEO, BU Manager, Country Manager or Commercial Director. It must also be clear from his or her background that the candidate has an entrepreneurial spirit. Therefore a background within a multinational needs to be accomplished with management experience in smaller companies / start-ups.
Obviously the CEO is responsible for excellent financial results. This indicates that the CEO must have strong analytical skills to make the right business decisions concerning which business opportunities and partners to focus on first, the overall pricing strategy and how to invest in time and money.
