Brunel is seeking a Head of Internal Audit to take global ownership of financial and operational audits.
The position
In this role, you will build a high-impact function, provide strategic insights to the CEO and Audit Committee, and strengthen governance across a dynamic international listed company.
As Head of Internal Audit, you will be globally accountable for designing, executing and continuously strengthening Brunel’s internal audit capability with a strong emphasis on financial and operational audit. You will define the audit strategy, develop the annual plan, and personally lead key audits across Brunel’s worldwide footprint.
Acting as an independent, trusted advisor, you will work closely with the CEO, CFO, Audit Committee and senior leadership to translate audit findings into impactful insights that drive better governance, risk management and operational performance. This role blends hands-on execution with strategic leadership, offering an exceptional opportunity to build and professionalise a world-class internal audit function.
The Head of Internal Audit is a new dedicated role and the candidate needs to be hands-on in conducting the internal audits and can leverage central and regional (finance) team members for conducting the audits.
The role will report directly to CEO and Chair of the Audit Committee.
Tasks & responsibilities
- Full global ownership of Brunel’s internal audit function with a focus on financial and operational audit
- Develop and implement a risk-based internal audit framework and annual global audit plan
- Lead and perform end-to-end audit engagements delivering actionable insights and recommendations
- Evaluate governance structures, internal controls, risk management practices and operational effectiveness
- Prepare high-quality audit reports for the CEO, CFO, Audit Committee and senior management
- Drive follow-up and accountability for remediation actions
- Collaborate with Corporate Control, central finance, regional finance teams and external auditors (EY)
- Conduct thematic reviews, ad-hoc audits/consulting engagement and special investigations
- Continuously enhance audit methodology, standards and overall professional credibility
- Serve as a respected voice promoting strong governance across the organisation
Candidate profile
- Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration or equivalent
- Post-qualified certification such as CIA, CISA, CPA, ACCA or similar
- Minimum 10 years of professional experience, ideally starting at a Big Four firm and subsequently in internal audit
- Demonstrable experience in financial and operational auditing within international, multi-geography environments
- Proactive, independent and capable of shaping a function from strategy to execution
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills with senior and board-level audiences
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities
- Global mindset with willingness to travel approximately 30–40% internationally
