The position

You will be part of the TDC organisation in Kampen, part of the Tembo Group and will be leading the company together with the Commercial Director, Operations Director and Financial Director.

Tasks & responsibilities

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Establishing a clear vision in line with the Tembo Group vision and strategy, developing and executing technology and product development roadmaps, special initiatives, and engineering best practices.
  • Setting clear direction for the team and ensure team targets are set, tracked, and achieved.
  • Ensuring successful introduction of high quality, manufacturable, serviceable, and reliable production systems.

Your main activities will be:  

  • Driving and crafting the technology roadmap for TDC as part of the Technology ambitions of the Tembo Group.
  • Embedding digitalisation and design-thinking in the Tembo organisations.
  • Growing and leading TDC R&D team and define high-level, longer-term strategies in conjunction with the group R&D initiatives.
  • Defining group composition including required proficiencies, resources, and skills.
  • Defining and executing process improvement activities.
  • Managing multiple projects, including building business cases and revenue estimations.
  • Evaluating development teams, identifying strengths, problem areas, and developing plans for improving performance.
  • Applying technology knowledge and best practices to contribute individually and collaborate with global technology contributors.
  • Developing recommendations to support growth and business improvement initiatives that will have a significant impact on Tembo’s long-term success.
  • Driving together with Purchasing and Operations the sourcing strategy including make-buy decisions, supplier selection, and contract management.
  • Defining IP policy, contribute to commercial transactions and process together with IPR legal department.
  • Staying up to date on related external research and developments.
  • Establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with internal and external partners and driving become one of the leaders of the Group R&D initiatives.
  • Finding and developing new suppliers if new technologies are not covered with current partners.
  • Representing R&D agenda of TDC in industry-led innovation centre Perron038 in Zwolle.

Candidate profile

  • Successful (international) Tech leadership experience, preferably in the machine-building or high-tech industry.
  • Master’s/PhD degree in Engineering, Physics, or related subject.
  • Knowledge of mechatronics, simulations and modelling or production system engineering.
  • Experienced in ‘Design for Manufacturing’ and ‘Design Thinking’.
  • Track record in managing and growing multinational teams, establishing systems and KPIs, and driving both revenue and profitability.
  • Manufacturing and technology-based IP attorney experience is desired.
  • Combining strategic thinking with hands-on operational execution power.
  • Can create a sense of urgency in driving projects and has a desire to set ambitious goals and work aggressively to meet project schedules, utilising the latest project management tools and techniques.
  • Is influential, proactive and a trusted leader, with the gravitas to support, manage and evolve development teams.
  • Proficient in the English language. Good command of Dutch is preferred. 
  • Willing to travel to other Tembo subsidiaries.
