Global Production Technology Manager

The organisation

Our client, Contour Fine Tooling in Valkenswaard, Netherlands, makes tools from diamonds for ultra-high precision machining down to nanometer tolerances. Applications include, for example, the machining of the molds for optical lenses, e.g. contact lenses and intraocular lenses as well as direct turning of spectacle and infrared lenses as well as mirrors.

The position

About 40 people work in Valkenswaard, but Contour also has production sites in the UK, Belgium, Brazil, USA, China and Japan. Contour is part of the Diamond Tools Group. We are looking for a Global Production Technology Manager.

Tasks & responsibilities

There are limited machines commercially available for producing the tools; the requested precision is unique. Contour makes or customizes its own production machines including brazing, laser cutting and grinding machines. Most tools are customer specific and unique.

As Global Production Technology Manager, you are responsible for all the equipment at all sites, working with local managers. You and your growing young team of 6 people, in Valkenswaard and the UK, take care of the development, construction, assembly and maintenance of these machines. Your team consists of eager, positive, highly skilled specialists in the field of mechanical engineering, mechatronics, software, vision technology and maintenance, and together the team ensures continuous development, pushing the boundaries of what is feasible.

You lead the team, inspire, determine the milestones and the budget. But above all, you have the overview, and you ensure focus and a pragmatic approach that delivers concrete results. Sustainable success is a team effort. Critical parts of the machines have to be built in-house, but some parts can also be sourced externally. You are aiming at standardizing as much as possible in respect to spare parts, maintenance and supply chain across the different production sites.

You report to the President of Contour and the CEO of the Diamond Tools Group.

Candidate profile

You have a completed education at minimum BSc level, preferably MSc or PhD. The specialization is in any case technical, probably Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Material Science or comparable. You have extensive experience with high-precision machine construction and/or research in a related field. You are about to take the next step as a Manager, but it is also possible that you are a longtime experienced Manager.

You enjoy making progress as a team. In any case, you are interested in literally and figuratively working on the cutting edge of technology. Your command of English is good; command of Dutch or another language is a plus.
