The position

  • Take decisions to ensure that project operations and engineering deliverables are engineered in a manner that safety, health, environment and security are safeguarded.
  • Set and define Engineering related company standards.
  • Approve deviations from Company Engineering Standards.
  • Approve engineering deliverables.
  • Approve requisitions.
  • Appraise subordinates.
  • Approve training and education programmes for subordinates.
  • Appraise engineering subcontractors.

The Engineering Manager reports directly to the General Manager Operations. He leads the following directs:

  • Project Engineers
  • Engineers
  • Lead Draughtsman

Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Ensuring that project operations are engineered in a manner that safety, health, environment and security are safeguarded.
  • Quality of engineering deliverables, including issues related to fit for purpose, safety, health, environment, security and cost.
  • Developing and preparing new equipment and vessels that suit the Company’s aspirations and objectives.
  • Engineering philosophy
  • Creating conditions, which allow engineers to fulfil requirements w.r.t. safety, health, environment and security.
  • Reviewing workload and adjusting human resource capacity accordingly.
  • Management of engineering knowledge.
  • Keeping-up Engineering Library.
  • Ensuring that engineering staff is adequately skilled, experienced, trained and educated.
  • Allocation of engineering staff to tasks.
  • Performance of engineering staff.
  • Engineering man-hour budget control
  • Assisting Manager Proposals in preparation of Proposal Documents.
  • Ensuring that al relevant disciplines are involved in review cycle of engineering deliverables.
  • Ensuring that expertise of operational staff is utilised during project preparations (in defining and reviewing installation / construction method).
  • Keeping abreast of innovative engineering developments.
  • Ensuring up-to-date engineering filing system.
  • Keeping in touch with market needs w.r.t. engineering solutions.
  • Innovating and renewing engineering methods and solutions.
  • Competence level and qualifications of engineering staff.
  • Motivation of engineering staff.
  • Communication and co-operation within engineering staff.
  • Communication and co-operation of engineering staff with other disciplines.
  • Management career perspectives for engineering staff.
  • Promoting of and ensuring adherence to company policy and Company Management System (CMS).
  • Development, maintenance and implementation of the Company Management System (CMS) documentation applicable to his field of responsibility.
  • Control of engineering related documentation.
  • Engineering evaluation of projects.
  • Ensuring that organisation is taking actions on given engineering feedback to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Identification and reporting of technical areas of concern to Head Engineering and Projects.
  • Stimulating and realizing optimisation and improvements in his area of responsibility.
  • Improvement of ability, efficiency, profitability of the engineering department.

Candidate profile

  • Master Degree in engineering or alternatively bachelor degree with extensive experience in design and engineering.
  • Minimum of 10 years experience in design & engineering of which a minimum of 5 years in the offshore industry.
  • Management skills training.
  • Project management training.
  • Good practical and theoretical knowledge of offshore transportation, installation and pipelay techniques.
  • Good understanding of contracting related legislation.
  • Good knowledge of safety in design & engineering.
  • Knowledge of Quality, Health, Environment and Security Systems.
  • Good knowledge of the English language both written and spoken.
  • Capable to motivate and manage subordinates and colleagues.
  • People knowledge.
  • Capable to recognise talent.
  • Prepared to travel and work irregular hours.
