The position

The new CTO will continue to build on the existing technology and product portfolio, developing new technologies to enable Paques’ ambition to be recognised as the leading innovator in anaerobic technologies and integrated solutions for resource recovery. The CTO will have responsibility for designing the new product roadmap, and for providing inspiration, leadership and structure for the R&D team based in the Netherlands.

The CTO will report to the CEO of the Paques Holding and be a crucial member of the Global Leadership Team.
Balk, Friesland is the location of this full-time position.

Tasks & responsibilities

• Develop, deploy and execute the R&D strategy ensuring alignment with business objectives and global market needs and translate it into an Innovation Roadmap which will be reviewed regularly in the Global Leadership Team.
• Identify new biotech/high-tech opportunities for Paques and turn these into a global technical and commercial success.
• Invent/develop and successfully launch a portfolio of innovative, competitive Paques’ products.
• Build an IP strategy and ensure that newly developed Paques knowledge and technology gets well protected through patenting or other means.
• Stay up to date with the state-of-the-art technology in the Paques domain by initiating and maintaining strong relationships with universities, knowledge institutes throughout the world that are active in this domain.
• Develop, grow and inspire a global team of world-class innovators and technology specialists – both in-house but also through external partnerships.
• Set up and implement a world-class innovation process facilitating adherence to go/no go milestones and R&D cost budgets in both Technology Development as well Product Development process.

Candidate profile

Key Qualifications & Competencies

• Masters/PhD degree in Environmental Technology, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Natural Science or equivalent.
• Experienced R&D Leader/Department Manager with proven track record and at least 5 years of relevant experience in managing innovation processes and/or departments.
• Inspirational leadership style and strong communication skills; ability to lead, grow and coach teams and individuals towards a common goal and objective, combined with a relentless focus on talent.
• Capability to provide clear directions, set priorities and clarify roles and responsibilities next to hands on capabilities in getting things done.
• Strong analytical skills.
• Affinity with AI tools.
• Inspires commitment from the Global Leadership Team (GLT) on the development and execution of the Innovation Roadmap.
• Natural curiosity drives the required open-minded R&D culture and networking skills with R&D related organizations, such as universities, research institute, etc.
