The position

As Scientific Evaluation Lead, you will be identifying and assessing external project opportunities in the fields of auto-immune diseases and fibrosis. As they aim to acquire the most promising external assets that fit within the company’s scientific strategy, you will be involved in sourcing deals to organise and lead various due diligence processes and present those to the internal evaluation board of Galapagos. In this position you will be closely collaborating with members of the Therapeutic Area group as well as with the Business Development department.

Tasks & responsibilities

• Evaluate and identify external molecules for partnering or in licensing
• Evaluate the unmet need and competitive environment, collaborating with internal and external experts
• Correctly interpret the potential weaknesses and risks of external assets
• Collaborate with the Pharmacology departments to propose and organise key experiments under MTA for clarifying the profile of these assets
• Present results and make recommendations to the internal evaluation board
• Provide high quality scientific support to assist the business development team

Candidate profile

Furthermore you need:

• PhD and at least 8 years of experience in the biotech / pharmaceutical industry.
• Strong analytical skills
• In depth knowledge of the drug discovery process
• Proven track record in the participation and management beyond lead optimisation
• Manage, coordinate and prioritise multiple projects simultaneously
• Ability to interpret the unmet needs in the therapeutic areas
• Great communication, interpersonal, networking and entrepreneurial skills
