Renewable Certificates Business Developer & Trader

The organisation

PetroChina Company Limited, a joint stock limited company, is one of the major oil and gas producers and distributors in China, as well as a significant player in the global oil and gas industry. PetroChina is engaged in a wide range of activities related to oil, gas, and new energy, and sustainably provides energy and oil products for economic and social development.

PetroChina International Netherlands BV is a new subsidiary in Rotterdam, that provides services to the European physical fuels market. In light of their ambition and strategy, PetroChina is looking for a Renewable Certificates Business Developer & Trader to help them shape the global carbon market.

The position

In the start-up phase of the business, you ensure the company is up to speed in all mandatory requirements for a successful launch of these trading activities. This includes opening registry accounts, ensuring the right systems are in place, and also onboarding counterparts.

You have the carbon market figured out and it holds no secrets for you. You understand the derivatives market too, can bring in a network of potential clients, know how to set up shop and you feel very comfortable in a combined business development and commercial role. Trading, developing business, expanding your network, and connecting people energises you. You take the lead in market analysis, scout opportunities, initiate negotiations, perform due diligence and build a sustainable portfolio with short- and long-term trading opportunities. You are loyal, result oriented and an easy-going team player. 

Your first focus will be on carbon derivatives, while you might be involved in carbon offsetting at a later stage. You will join as the seventh member of the growing Rotterdam office team which is expected to grow to a team of 20 people in the coming years.

Being part of the Rotterdam team, you will also work closely with the trading desks in London, Houston, and Singapore. 

Candidate profile

• Bachelor's or Master’s degree, preferably in Science, Commerce or Legal.
• Demonstrated in-depth knowledge and understanding of the carbon derivatives market and its players.
• Experienced and autonomous in trading and contracting.
• Experience in business development and ‘setting up shop’ is considered a plus.
• Entrepreneur, proactive, empathic, energetic, ambitious, strategically strong and ability to focus in a fast-moving environment.
• Result-driven and action focused.
• Excellent communication skills in English. Dutch or other languages are considered a plus.
• Living in or willing to relocate to the Netherlands, Rotterdam Area.
