The organisation

Business Area (BA) Markets maximizes the value of Client’s portfolio by optimizing and dispatching, hedging and sourcing for Client's assets and sales positions. We serve as Client’s single market access to energy commodity markets trading in electricity, emissions, fuels, freight, and renewable certificates. We are active across Europe with around 500 professionals working from Sweden, Germany, The Netherlands, the United Kingdom and Denmark.

BU Customers is enabling both Client and our customers to become fossil free. We do this by offering power purchase agreements to operators of wind or solar parks and by connecting customers to fossil free electricity. We provide portfolio management services to large customers and (regional) energy suppliers and connect demand-side flexibility to stabilize the electricity grid. We furthermore source electricity for Client’s consumer and business customers with a strong focus to increase renewable sources of electricity and gas.

The position

The energy landscape is changing. We are shaping the future and with that also shaping our organization. In accordance with our vision to meet our customers more effectively within changing market trends, we are looking for the right person to lead Commodity Origination as Director Commodity Origination. 

You will lead a team of 15 FTE with a focus on origination on the power and gas markets, extending and developing business for trading, portfolio management, (demand-side) flexibility services and hydrogen. You will explore new business opportunities as well as scale established business lines. Together with BU Trading you will further develop power and gas origination with a strong connection to the P&L of the respective trading books. Commodity Origination will have originators that are responsible for commodity origination in the Nordics, Germany, the Netherlands and the UK.

You will have 10 FTE direct reports and hold one N3 department: “Commodity Sales” (5 FTE). Reporting directly to the Vice President of BU Customers, you will become a member of the BU Customers Management Team.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • Develop and implement business strategies
  • Maintain and deepen strategic customer network 
  • Lead BA Markets commodity origination activities and teams across all customer/counterpart segments and product categories for all Client markets
  • Support negotiation & structuring of complex transactions with external counterparties 
  • Lead commodity sales and customer care
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, e.g. in BU Trading
  • Drive a customer service-oriented culture without compromising regulatory requirements

Like all leaders in Client you will have three main focus areas: drive innovation to develop our business, connect people to the bigger picture and to each other and accelerate learning to use your and your team’s full potential.

Candidate profile

We are looking for a Director Commodity Origination who has a relevant University degree (or equal), relevant work experience in a similar position; of which at least 7 years in a managerial role. 

Next to this you bring: 

  • An Open, Active and Positive attitude
  • More than 10 years of experience in the origination business
  • Strong leadership skills, people and change management skills
  • Performance oriented and experienced in working in an international as well as in a regional and local environment
  • Established Client’s network (inside and outside of BA Markets) and ability to build trust  with different stakeholders
  • Excellent cooperation and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information 

The location of this position is flexible, and can be based in one of our core locations (Hamburg,  Amsterdam and Stockholm).
