Global Category Product Manager (acrylates or methacrylates)

Ocean Recruitment is a recruitment company dedicated to the chemical and raw materials industry. For one of our clients we are searching for a Global Category Product Manager Acrylates and a Global Category Product Manager Methacrylates.

Our client is an independently owned, dynamic company. A global supplier of commodity and specialty chemical products to a wide range of industries, such as the paint, coatings, inks, resin, textile, adhesives, construction, and plastics industry.

Their experience and knowledge globally allow them to understand the intricate mechanics of the markets they serve. Their success is based upon developing outstanding relationships with suppliers and customers.

The position

Category Manager with strong procurement skills in the (petro) chemicals industry. Company is a growing and ambitious global supplier of commodity and specialty chemical products to a wide range of industries.

Tasks & responsibilities

Global responsibility for the acrylates or methacrylates product category, leading on all aspects of procurement for the assigned category. Managing the P&L for the relevant assigned category.

Supporting the Global Commercial Director by contributing to the development of the global procurement strategy/plan which will then feed into the company’s 3-5 year strategic business plan to realise the company’s growth ambitions.

Supporting the Global Commercial Director to implement the agreed procurement strategy/plan, which is aligned to the sales plan and will deliver an appropriate and stable external supply chain.

Contributing to the annual procurement planning cycle for the relevant product category to ensure that stock volumes align with forecast sales and cost targets. Contributing to the rolling four monthly reforecast cycle for the relevant product category revising procurement plans accordingly to ensure that stock, sales and cost align.

Driving cost, quality, supply and sustainability supplier improvements for the relevant product category through proactive strategic, tactical and sourcing interventions.
Negotiating and executing master supply contracts and other critical agreements for the relevant product category ensuring that the company’s interests are protected and that the terms are legally compliant.

Keeping the Global Commercial Director updated on all product category activity on a regular basis. Ensuring all job knowledge is kept up to date by keeping abreast of relevant regulations and accepted practices; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks and sharing findings to ensure on-going delivery improvement.

Candidate profile

The ideal candidate is an experienced category/ procurement manager in the petrochemical/ chemical commodities market.

• Educated to degree level (or equivalent) in a commercial or technical discipline.
• Demonstrable product, purchasing and supplier management experience in a relevant environment/industry, including proven experience of delivering targeted volume and margin.
• Proven and practical contract and relevant legislation knowledge.
• Strong commercial acumen and negotiation skills.
• Experience of working within a global marketplace, across different regions and with the ability to adapt to different cultural requirements.
• High level of organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Strong team player with excellent communication skills.
• Self-motivated and able to use own initiative and multi-task whilst working in a fast paced environment.
• Logical thinking with the ability to solve problems as they arise.
• Strong analytical capability.
• Fluency in English and preferably other languages.
