Due to strategic reasons, AES is opening its new EMEA Headquarters at the ZuidAs in Amsterdam.

Job Profile

For the tax department in Amsterdam we are looking for a Senior International Tax Manager EMEA. The position reports to the Tax Director EMEA who reports to the CFO EMEA & Asia.

The size and complexities of the different regional activities and the growing character of AES makes this a very interesting opportunity for candidates. More impotantly, the ideal candidate must be a self-starting, enthousiastic and proactive candidate who will contribute to the success of AES Corporation in the EMEA region.

Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include, but will not be limited to the following:

  • Review and provision of advice on US GAAP reporting (FAS 109 - ASC 740 - templates, work-papers, memos, checklists, FIN 48, FIN 18, purchase accounting and disposals);
  • Advice and assistance on acquisitions, disposals, third party financing, re-organisations and development activities throughout EMEA;
  • Advise and / or assist on measures to improve the group's cash tax position and post-tax returns;
  • Assist in managing corporate income tax positions for companies in the region, including tax input in local statutory accounts, timely filing of tax returns (corporate income tax), payment of taxes, monitoring tax risks and tax audits. Level of involvement will depend on the complexity of the isues and the risks;
  • Liaise with businesses on tax, accounting and business developments;
  • Liaise with US Tax Department on tax issues in the SBU (development activities, structuring, Treasury Step Plans, tax compliance, FAS 109 reporting, tax risks);
  • Manage or assist in managing tax audits;
  • Work closely with other head office departments and SBU functions such as Corporate Acounting, SBU Accounting, FP&A, Treasury, Legal and business development teams;
  • Assist with global and SBU transfer pricing projects;
  • Provide assistance on withholding tax, VAT, stamp duty, residency certificates, treaty clearances and other taxes;
  • Miscellaneous tax research and other projects;
  • SBU Tax lead for UK and Jordan, as well as support for Spain and Hungary clean up;
  • Liaise with tax advisers on FAS 109 reporting, tax audits, tax compliance, tax due dilligence on acquisitions & disposals, tax planning projects and professional fees;
  • Manage and develop direct reports.

Requirements :

  •  9+ years experience in UK and / or international corporate income tax in either profession (preferably from BIG 4) or industry (preferably from major international company);
  • ACA, or equivalent qualification, and / or tax qualification;
  • Strong accounting and analytical skills;
  • Good overview of European tax - able to know what to look for;
  • Some knowledge of US GAAP and FAS 109 required;
  • Strong computer skills: proficiency in Excel, Word, Power Point;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical tax issues with non-tax people;
  • Ability to work well in teams and also be self-motivated;
  • Ability to multi-task and to take on new projects at short notice;
  • Able to be detail oriented but also required to understand and communicate the big picture.
