The organisation

Credit Risk Management (CRM) is an enthusiastic and diverse team of 35 highly qualified professionals spread across three segments (Credit Risk Portfolio Management, Credit Risk Analytics and Predictive Analytics) within one of the biggest banks in The Netherlands. This team is responsible for managing the credit risks in the lending portfolios of all segments within our client. Setting and managing risk appetite, developing and maintaining compliant policies, monitoring the portfolios using data driven analyses and developing predictive risk models.

They closely cooperate with business stakeholders in order to: contribute to better business while pro-actively managing the associated credit risks. At a decisive moment the team is designing the future of credit risk management, for which one of the fundament will be to further unleash the potential of data driven credit risk management. Credit Risk Portfolio Management, is at the core of this change in which risk appetite, capital, provisions, policy setting, credit decisions and monitoring will be connected through data. Further transforming the Credit Risk Portfolio Management in a data-driven way will ensure risk management by design and as a result contribute to better business while keeping the bank safe and compliant.

The position

As a Senior Financial Risk Officer (for Consumers Lending) you are responsible (for part of the consumer lending portfolio) for

  • Managing risk appetite framework, set risk appetite and monitor limit utilisation
  • Maintaining up to date policies and monitor adherence to those policies
  • Monitoring of the portfolio performance, including forward looking analysis and deriving insights, conclusions and actions

You are responsible for keeping portfolio management in line with regulatory requirements and execute changes when those requirements change. You play a leading role in the execution of the data-driven transformation by (i) developing / designing data-driven risk management solutions (ii) supporting (more junior) team members and (iii) pro-actively managing stakeholders. You are a partner of the business and you manage relations with front office, service teams, Group Risk and regulatory affairs.

Tasks & responsibilities

The Credit Risk Portfolio Management team is responsible for providing the skills and competencies required for managing the credit risk appetite framework and its implementation. Managing credit risk performance of the portfolio through a number of tools like:

  • Setting knock out rules and policy settings
  • Facilitating efficient implementation of the rules/policies
  • Monitoring compliance to the rules and initiating actions based on the results
  • Ongoing data driven automation of rules (decrease of reliance on expert judgement and using data to replace and automate those where possible)
  • Increasing % of automated credit decisioning at approval and throughout the full lifecycle of the loan

Monitoring Credit Risk performance of the portfolio and using this information to manage the portfolio though the set of available tools. Efficient implementation and monitoring of the relevant Credit Risk regulations through ensuring local policy compliance to Group and Retail Credit Risk policies. Stakeholder management on the local level with the 1st line and service teams.

The scope of the team is bank-wide and covers all products and segments: Consumers (mortgages and unsecured lending), Business Lending (SME, Mid-Corp and Private banking).

Candidate profile

  • You have at least 7 years of experience within Credit Risk function of Consumer portfolio, can include policies, portfolio analysis, modelling, implementation activities
  • You have experience (firsthand involvement) into LLP and capital calculations and processes
  • You have performed analytical tasks in your previous role, and therefore able to
    • Design and drive qualitative and quantitative analysis
    • Conceptually understand Logical Data Model (LDM)/Entity Relationship model (ERM) of data sources relevant to Credit Risk analysis
    • Perform quantitative analysis in excel on advanced level
  • You have worked with Data Bases and acquainted with some of the programming languages
  • You have proven program and process management skills (number of complex project executions, including change management) with regular reporting to senior stakeholders and regulators
  • You have experience dealing with Consumer segment (Netherlands or international) in 1st or 2nd line roles and therefore have a thorough understanding of
    • Consumer credit process
    • Consumer products and respective regulation (in particular local regulation)
  • You have experience with Credit Risk regulation, i.e. interpretation of the regulation, implementation of the regulation
  • You have experience with Dutch consumer related regulation
  • You have good verbal and written communication skills in English and Dutch
  • You have proven record of driving and implementing change
  • You have hunger for deep understanding and striving for impact
  • You are stress resilient and able to prioritise and manage yourself effectively
  • You constantly develop yourself professionally and you are passionate about Credit Risk related topics
