The position

The Group Financial Controller reports to the CFO. 

Purpose of the position

For our client this position incorporates 4 major goals:

  • Oversees all activities around the Company’s accounting, financial reporting and policies supporting the interpretation, execution and reporting of group operations and activities;
  • Oversees the development, integrity and delivery of financial statements and other financial reports for submission to Corporate and local management;
  • Provides leadership in all Tax matters and advises on how to maximize tax efficiencies;
  • Provides leadership and oversight to accounting and administrative operations, including revenue recognition, accounting, risk management and corporate governance and creates and implements corporate financial policies, procedures, and structures within the boundaries established by GAAP and Corporate management.

Key accountabilities

Management

  • Directs a team with responsibilities including accounts payable, sales commissions, fixed assets, software capitalization, general ledger functions, elimination entries, internal controls, internal and external audits;
  • Directs and oversees the group Accounting organization including Facilities by providing direction to managers in multiple countries;
  • Directs the Group Reporting function. In that regards ensures reporting is done accurately and efficiently.

Lead Expert

  • Analyze financial results for accuracy and completeness and perform monthly, quarterly and annual financial statement closes;
  • Responsible for the implementation of Transfer Pricing policies across the Group; Ensures tax management is performed in line with Group policies;
  • Directs the preparation of the monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and reports for the group in accordance with company policies and within established deadlines;
  • Establishes and monitors accounting policies and procedures to ensure that all financial transactions are executed and documented in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and company policies;
  • Updates the organization about the impact of latest developments in revenue recognition and continuously reviews impact on the business;
  • Coordinates and responds to internal audits and annual audit by external auditors;
  • Identifies and recommends requirements for group financial systems and works with Business IT teams and other functional leaders to implement and enhance financial systems in accordance with stated objectives;
  • Oversees Corporate Governance of group entities with regards to Board meetings;
  • Keeps group wide corporate articles of association up to date.

Assigned projects

  • Participates from a legal and tax perspective in projects regarding group structure (i.e. liquidation, merger, acquisition);
  • Participates in legal/fiscal restructuring projects and has a leading role in tax optimization.

Job requirements

As a Group Financial Controller you should have:

  • Master’s degree in business, finance or accounting;
  • Professional Qualification Requirement: a CPA, Chartered Accountancy certification (or local equivalent) or related professional accreditation is required;
  • Experience in accounting operations, management of an accounting close and the preparation of financial statements and supporting schedules;
  • Experience in the implementation or significant enhancement of one or more financial systems;
  • International experience, Experience in one of the “Big 5” financial firms;
  • Ability to speak additional European languages;
  • Expert technical knowledge of accounting principles, procedures, and internal controls;
  • Proven track record of providing accurate and timely financial reports;
  • Excellent knowledge of Dutch Tax regulations and African Tax matters in general
  • Excellent knowledge of transfer pricing regulations;
  • Sound knowledge of Dutch and African corporate law.
