Dutch company that primarily specializes in providing software, SaaS and BPO solutions, especially for the complete mortgage chain. They offer a range of services related to loan management, digital transformation, data and financial administration.
They are on of the largest independent end-to-end service provider for the mortgage market in Europe and the market standard in the Benelux.
The position
The new Director Group Audit will help shape the future of audit at a leading international mortgage tech organization. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for safeguarding value and enhancing governance across Stater’s operations in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany, and potentially in the near future in other European countries.
Also you will be responsible for transforming Audit from an internal control organization to an organization with a balanced inside and outside perspective. An organization were Assurance is not only pre-conditional but also a distinguished factor for all parties involved.
The mission of this role is to enhance and protect organizational value by providing risk-based and objective assurance, advice, and insight. As insurance, especially Audit, is getting more crucial/important nowadays, the exposure is increasing and has an important role in the growth of the company. He/she will provide objective assurance, insight and added value regarding the achievement of:
- Effective, efficient, and secure business operations.
- Safeguarding of entrusted and own assets.
- Reliability of operational and financial data and reporting.
- Compliance with applicable laws and regulations; including internal policies and procedures.
Stater’s Audit assessments include the proper design and effectiveness of:
- Governance structures, processes and principles such as the strategy and objective setting, accountability, integrity (ethics and values), transparency and competencies;
- Risk identification and risk assessment processes, risk appetite setting and monitoring and proper responses to potential impairments;
- Control processes as part of risk mitigation and risk management.
The Group Audit department serves as an independent monitoring function which reports to the CEO. Through the completion of the annual audit plan, Internal Audit aims to;
- Support the company in mitigating its main strategic, operational, compliance, and financial risks.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of processes and controls and identify and share best practices.
Due to (international) regulations, the need for assurance for our clients is changing. As a result, contacts with customers and customer auditors will continue to increase. The Director Group Audit in his role as supervisor of audits carries out by our clients, comes into frequent contact with the auditors of the market leaders in the field of audit. It is necessary to be able to balance between the independence as an auditor and the interests of Stater.
Reporting directly to the Group CEO and the Chairperson of the Audit Committee and work closely with Managing Board, senior leaders, (auditors of) clients and external parties like regulators, assurance providers, rating agencies etc.
Tasks & responsibilities
- Determining the strategic direction for your own department and contributing from your field to the longer-term strategy and vision of Stater.
- Leading the Group Audit departments in 3 countries.
- Focused on the longer term as well as the short term.
- Initiate and maintain contact with both internal and external stakeholders. You are a sparring partner for AC, MB and Senior Management, and you will advise on strategic issues.
- Responsible for the guidance of client’s Auditors.
Candidate profile
- Professional characteristics
- Relevant university degree or professional qualification such as accounting, finance, IT, business economics etc. One of the following professional qualifications is a must RA, RE, RO (or equivalent). Other qualifications like CIA, CISA, are welcome.
- Minimum 10 years of relevant experience, notably combining:
- at least 5 years of external audit.
- managerial/leadership position in internal audit, or any other relevant risk management function.
- reporting, towards the Supervisory Board, Board of directors and towards clients.
- Good knowledge of the GIAS and the capacity to use it and apply structured internal audit methodology per standards, integrating data, regulations, and company policies.
- Execution skills
- Adaptability in leadership and management styles to fit specific circumstances.
- Supervise audit or management support assignments, set objectives, motivate the team, review work, and provide performance feedback.
- Manage a team of direct and indirect reports (including recruitment, setting the right tone, annual objectives, performance assessment, development, coaching and motivation).
- Managing audits of customers and regulators and acting as a sparring partner in those cases
- Policy development of audit activities across multiple countries, relationships
- Ownership for and relationship with external parties, including clients
- Languages
- Fluent in English. Sufficiency in German and French would be considered as an extra asset.

- Focus on international developments in the field of laws and regulations / risk, but also topics that are relevant to clients
- Location
- The position can be based in either our Amersfoort or Brussel office. A hybrid working arrangement is available, with a minimum of three days per week required on-site.
