The organisation

Our client is a listed international market leader in Automation Machinery Manufacturing. For their office in the Netherlands, they are looking for a strong external auditor for the role of Financial controller - Consolidation & Reporting.

The position

The Financial Controller (Consolidation & Reporting) ensures strong accounting and reporting throughout the group, including overseeing, and monitoring an effective control environment. Need to have to be technically astute with sound knowledge of financial fundamentals. A classic accounting background with one of the 'Big 4' are highly regarded and preferred. They must be naturally good at understanding and deciphering numerical data. Ideally, must possess a rather deep understanding of the sector that he or she is employed in (business acumen).

Tasks & responsibilities

  • To ensure the accuracy, completeness, and validity of all financial information in the Group
  • To ensure all entities comply to statutory requirements and internal reporting deadlines
  • To support the European Financial Controller in the continuous improvement of processes
  • To support external and internal audit in the performance of their procedures
  • Review monthly packages within the set timetable, according to the defined group accounting standards and financial policies
  • Ensure that the financial information for the Group are complete, accurate and abide by the generally accepted accounting principles (US GAAP) and any industry standards that apply to the industry the company is involved
  • Prepare the monthly consolidation for OEE-G, OCB-G and OHE-G (including OMCE-CON)
  • Critically review the monthly/quarterly/annual consolidations
  • Attend pre close meetings with the Senior/Chief accountants
  • Attend closing meetings for each Business company
  • Advise and implement improvements in the consolidation where necessary
  • Ensure the Group maintains a strong financial control environment
  • Coach and monitor the development of the financial control team
  • Manage the relationship and expectations with the Global Finance and Accounting team (Japan)
  • Execute and manage ad hoc project work
  • Provide technical accounting support to the Financial control - and business control team
  • Prepare statutory accounts for legal entities as assigned within the corporate reporting deadlines and in line with the accepted accounting principles (Dutch GAAP)
  • Manage relationship and expectations of the external and internal auditors
  • Execute and manage ad hoc requests relating to accounting topics
  • Ensure proper execution of internal controls and adherence to management rules
  • Propose improvement of internal controls and process
  • Ensure proper documentation on processes are in place and up to date
  • Ad hoc requests from GFA and GIA (CAAT data, surveys etc)

Candidate profile

  • Bachelor Degree in Accounting or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in hands-on accounting role
  • Minimum 3 years in staff supervision
  • English language proficiency
  • Strong excel, power point skills
  • Knowledge and application of accounting guidelines (US-GAAP, Dutch GAAP, J-SOX, IFRS)
  • Knowledge of ERP systems and Accounting Software packages, preferably JDE and HFM
  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment
  • Ability to participate in and facilitate group meetings
  • Excellent leadership, analytical, time management, reporting, communication, interpersonal, problem-solving and administrative skills
  • Proactively addresses business issues arising and takes action to resolve
  • Uses team structure effectively to delegate and ensure work tasks are completed with available resources
  • Flexible and able to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Remains flexible to deal with changing business requirements and can manage task variation and prioritize to ensure critical work tasks are completed on time, accurately and completely
  • Excellent communication skills and team player (bridge builder)
  • Self-starting and result / deadline oriented and accurate.
