The organisation

Our client is Europe’s leading consumer electronics retailer and provider of related services. The company operates with approximately 1,000 stores in European countries with online sales platforms, claiming market position 1 or 2 in nine European countries. As part of its strategic realignment, the company is developing itself from a classical product seller to a solutions-oriented omnichannel platform which integrates the topics customer and sustainability into all its business activities. They are using the term "Experience Electronics" to describe its repositioning and, at the same time, the range of services it offers its customers. With its portfolio of formats and brands, the electronics retailer is focusing on customer experience and personal advice.

The position

The Finance Director is responsible for the entire accounting of the Benelux and leads the Finance teams, including the indirect management of the SCC. 

The responsibilities of the Finance Director Benelux are mainly in drawing up and ensuring the execution of the monthly and year-end closing, preparing reliable internal and external financial reports, monitoring the quality of the administration as a whole and solving complex financial issues at the national level. The aim is mainly an effective and efficient realisation of (financial) objectives, optimal design of finances and other systems and the maintenance of reliable administration. 

Responsible for accounting, treasury, credit control, tax, projects, insurance, and fleet.

The Finance Director Benelux reports to the CFO Benelux.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • Strategic Financial Leadership
    • Responsible for the organization-wide financial policy and processes in the Benelux.
    • Formulating financial strategies and objectives in line with the overarching business goals.
    • Integrating new commercial or operational activities into existing financial processes.
    • Functional management of the SCC, sparring partner for the management of the SCC.
    • Simplify and automate project-based financial processes.
    • Managing, coaching, assessing, and developing the employees of your own department, using the tools, services and procedures of the HR department.
  • Operational Management and Control
    • Drafting, implementing, and realizing the annual plan for the finance department, aimed at achieving financial KPIs.
    • Responsible for accurate registration and administration of financial data, both at Holding and branch level and timely submission of all reports, both internal and external.
    • Monitoring the reliability of ledger accounts and proactively intervening in the event of deviations. IFRS and local GAAP reporting.
    • Monitoring and implementing group financial guidance.
  • Compliance, Risk Management and Reporting
    • Prepare, audit, and distribute both internal and external financial reports, in accordance with laws and regulations.
    • Supervising the audit and ensuring a timely handling of findings.
    • Developing, managing, and implementing the Internal Control Framework and Tax Control Framework.
  • Credit Control and Stakeholder Management
    • Designing and implementing Credit Control policy, including effective management of outstanding receivables and active debtor management.
    • Analyzing financial processes, identifying bottlenecks, and advising on and implementing improvements.
    • Maintaining a strategic network with internal and external stakeholders, such as branches, controlling, accountants, advisors, and corporate accounting.

Candidate profile

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
  • Professional qualification (e.g., CPA, ACCA, CMA) is a plus.
  • At least 10 years of experience in financial controlling, ideally within the retail or consumer electronics sector.
  • Proven leadership experience in a multinational environment.
