The organisation

Our client has operations throughout Europe and is part of a global US company so the environment is highly international and complex. The company is currently looking for a European Tax Manager who will be responsible for all group tax matters in Europe.

The position

This position should coordinate local Dutch and non-Dutch tax audits and filing requirements, investigate tax discrepancies, provide tax support to business partners in and out of the NL, and assist in the development of strategies to lower the overall Group tax footprint.  This position works as an extension of the Corporate Global Tax Team located in USA and will assist on global tax initiatives affecting the European group of companies.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • Own and coordinate all Group tax matters including compliance in relation to corporate income tax, VAT, payroll taxes, customs matters, property tax, withholding tax and others.
  • Monitor and act on European wide tax developments, which includes national and EU law (initiatives), national and EU jurisprudence and e.g. OECD initiatives.
  • Be the primary contact for the business for all tax matters.
  • Coordinate and supervise internal and external resources to meet compliance requirements in non-Dutch subsidiaries.
  • Work with external providers to review Dutch and non-Dutch tax returns to ensure accuracy.
  • Assist in the coordination and resolution of Dutch and non-Dutch tax audits.
  • Assist the Corporate Tax Department in making recommendations on intercompany transactions.
  • Assist in the gathering of information and analysis of the tax expense provision calculated and reported in books of the Group subsidiaries. 
  • Own transfer pricing framework and ensure it meets changing expectations tax authorities across Europe.
  • Assist the Corporate Tax Accounting team in USA with questions related to the global consolidation of the overall tax liability of the US parent company.

Candidate profile

  • University degree in Fiscal Economics or Tax Law
  • Position requires proven Dutch tax and international tax experience which includes tax compliance and planning. 
  • Ability to manage a workload with sensitive due dates.
  • Must have strong (tax) accounting skills.
  • Must be proficient in Excel, Word and tax research tools.
  • Strong verbal and written skills and the ability to communicate with financial and operating management of the Company and its subsidiaries in both English and Dutch. French would be a plus.
  • Must have good organizational skills, ability to prioritize projects, ability to manage workload and tight deadlines.
  • Must have the ability to work independently, be flexible and a team player.
