This company is looking for a Chief Financial Officer that will help them navigate through the next stage of scale from a financial and operations point of view. In the next 6-18 months, the company will raise additional growth capital and/or pursue other strategic (M&A) options, and you will play a pivotal role in this.

This company is a leading Digital Customer Success Platform that uses the power of community to measurably improve net retention and growth of their customers. Their offices in Amsterdam and New York have around 60 employees and are growing rapidly. Their B2B customer base has grown 200%+ in 2020, with many new (unicorn) customers like Gainsight, Zapier, Mixpanel, Freshworks, LinkedIN and Looker. This Company is a 6.5 mio revenu venture backed scale-up and is executing in a market which is hot and growing.

The position

In this CFO position you will be part of the Management Team and you will report directly to the CEO (founder of the company). The management team consists out:

  • CEO
  • CFO
  • CPO (Chief Product Officer)
  • VP Sales
  • VP Marketing
  • VP Customer Success

Because of the impressive growth last 12 months and expected growth of the company in the coming months/years (2021: 10 mio & 2022: 15 mio) the CFO has to be able to not only professionalize the the Finance department but professionalize the whole organization (from an operations point of view) to the highest level. As a CFO you understand, challenge and confirm where the company stands on the key (SaaS) metrics. You can manage complex financial structures and be a strategic sparring partner to the rest of the leadership team. So, In this position you must be able to add substantial value from a ‘business partner’ & ‘shareholder’ perspective.

You must be very comfortable to present the company towards new investors, banks, shareholders, new clients, etc. It is a ‘high impact’ position in an international environment. We are looking for a next level CFO (2.0) that feels comfortable (proven trackrecord) to be one of the main leaders in managing a successful ‘exit’ process in the future.

Tasks & responsiblities

  • Lead, coach and inspire the staff team, which includes finance, revenue operations, vibe & culture, legal and HR (5 FTE).
  • Provide strategic guidance on capital financing options to support company growth, including creating long term (financial) models for investors (Venture Capital).
  • Acting as adviser and challenger and making the company more data-driven to ensure the business goals, resources, and processes are appropriate and delivered. Evaluate and set company strategy, providing expertise on financial drivers, opportunities, risks, and trade-offs.
  • Oversee the financial operations of the company and provide leadership and focus to ensure that they operate efficiently (including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, financial reporting, budgeting, internal controls, cash flow, smooth operations, etc)
  • Provide monthly, quarterly, and ad hoc insight in key (SaaS) Metrics, analysis and reporting to the board, ensuring a high degree of quality, timeliness, accuracy, and business insight.
  • Help define growth strategies, financial modelling, forecasting and reporting for company initiatives, product development, new pricing models to assess ROI, risks/rewards, go-to-market assumptions, costs, SaaS benchmarking, etc
  • Improve and scale revenue & operational efficiency by focusing on automation, evaluating and implementing new technology, tools and policies, and starting new disciplines in the company.
  • Advise on compensation strategy including equity and bonus planning.

Candidate profile

Required experience

  • Minimum of 10 years of finance experience, preferably in a high growth SaaS business and robust leadership experience
  • Masters degree in Finance; preferably also an Executive Master of Finance & Control (RC)
  • Gained experience in working for VC-backed or PE-backed (fast gowing SaaS) companies
  • Strong understanding of accounting, budgeting and finances, but also an expert in SaaS metrics and subscription-based models
  • Knowledge of financing/experience with raising a VC round of financing (preferably with US investors)
  • Broader leadership experience; we’re looking for a C level executive who can act as the right hand of the CEO in many different areas, and is leaning towards a COO role
  • You need to feel comfortable also running all company operations, for example around HR, culture, revops, legal and broader business planning
  • The ideal candidate is born in finance but grew up as a company leader
