Top of Minds for RB

The organisation

RB is one of the world’s largest Health and Hygiene companies, responsible for many of our most familiar household products, including Dettol, AirWick, Scholl and Durex.

There is currently a vacancy for Director Amazon Europe, Australia & New Zealand, based at the Global Hygiene/Home Headquarters in Amsterdam. The Director Amazon will lead RB’s partnership with Amazon as they continue to scale globally. Their focus will be to provide direction and leadership to RB’s markets in Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

RB is the world’s leading consumer Health and Hygiene company. The company is headquartered in Amsterdam for its Hygiene/Home Business Unit and in London for its Health Business Unit, with sales in most countries across the globe.

RB is led by a company-wide purpose of providing innovative solutions for healthier lives and happier homes. In the Hygiene/Home Business Unit, the focus is on the purpose to create a cleaner world. RB is the global leader or runner-up in the majority of its fast-growing categories, driven by an exceptional focus on innovation. RB’s Hygiene/Home portfolio is led by its global Power Brands including Lysol, Dettol, Harpic, Cillit Bang, Mortein, Finish, Vanish, Calgon, Air Wick and Woolite.

RB’s unique culture is at the heart of its success. Its drive to achieve, passion to outperform and commitment to quality and scientific excellence is manifested through the work of over 40,000 employees worldwide. RB is proud to lead the Save a Child a Minute campaign, which aims to eliminate child mortality rates by reducing the incidence of diarrhea, one of the world’s main causes of death for children under five.

The position

This is a rare and unique opportunity to build and leverage a state-of-the-art partnership with arguably the most important player in the modern global e-commerce market, thus contributing to groundbreaking expansion. Because of the high levels of visibility within the organization, success in this role will be rewarded with attractive career opportunities.

The Director Amazon Europe will take ownership and stewardship of the coordination of RB’s partnership with Amazon between all the major countries. The candidate needs to be able to transfer knowledge, first internally, within RB Global Health & Hygiene, and then externally to the other RB country teams.

The Director Amazon Europe will be part of a management team led by Eelco Ockers, GM Sales Europe, Australia & New Zealand, and will work closely with Anthony Jenkinson, SVP Global E-Business at RB, and his team. Ockers’ team is comprised of the Director Amazon Europe, a Director Discount Retail, a Director International Contracts, a Director Revenue Maximization / Pricing, a Director Go-To-Market / Sales Force Automation and a Manager Sales Learning & Development. The Director Amazon will have two direct reports: a Channel Marketing Manager and a Search & Content Manager.

An exciting challenge can be found in building the direct-to-consumer activities from scratch: mainly through Amazon, but also through platforms like Alibaba and eBay.

Other challenges essential to this role lie in developing and implementing a vision and strategy for the partnership with Amazon Europe.

On top of this, the harmonization of prices between the various countries is an important aspect, because if Durex condoms are twice as expensive on amazon.de as they are on amazon.fr, what’s stopping German customers from buying their rubbers in France?

What’s more, seemingly unaccountable price differences have an unfavorable impact on brand perception. Another important responsibility of the Director Amazon is overseeing the optimization of Amazon’s range of RB products and identifying the gaps and areas for improvement.

Candidate profile

A hands-on mentality is vital, just like the cultural fit within the organization. RB is known for its fast-paced company culture involving very direct and open communication, where employees are challenged to push their own limits and discover new horizons.

  • Minimum 8 years’ FMCG / e-commerce experience
  • Of which at least 2 with a large international e-commerce player
  • With account management, category management or (trade) marketing
  • Digitally native and naturally curious
  • Knowledge of category dynamics
  • Strategy Consulting background also a possibility
  • Results-driven and very ambitious
  • Analytical problem solver
  • Strong influencer, also when working in a remote location
  • Able to lead teams and projects
