  • Managing competition law cases, litigation and inquiries from authorities;
  • Advising the AkzoNobel businesses worldwide on competition law matters;
  • Supporting in M&A transactions and corporate strategy;
  • Managing and monitoring AkzoNobel’s competition law compliance program;
  • Developing the competition law skills of the AkzoNobel lawyers and other interested parties.

We are currently looking to recruit a

Director Competition Counsel

Responsibility

  • Identifies competition law risks for the AkzoNobel businesses and ensures appropriate mitigating controls are in place;
  • Makes relevant competition law rules, guidance and education available;
  • Implements suitable competition law standards and manages competition law processes such as amnesty programs, dawn raid network and competition law declarations;
  • Manages competition law investigations;
  • Manages merger control filings and provides competition law support in M&A projects
  • Is primary point of contact for competition law authorities; Provides competition law advice and support in business transactions;
  • Manages the competition law expert group;
  • Manages external competition law counsel engaged in competition law matters.  

Functional responsibilities/network

  • Maintaining expertise in competition law (e.g. developments relating to competition law) through active participation in external networks (e.g. in-house counsels networks, law firm trainings);
  • External speaker on conferences and publications in journals.

Candidate profile

  • Legal master (academic) plus Bar admission in relevant EU jurisdiction;
  • At least 10 years of experience working as a lawyer at an international law firm or at a multinational corporation;
  • At least 3 years of experience working as a competition counsel;
  • Business acumen, solution oriented and proven negotiating and facilitating skills;
  • Able to manage competition law processes (e.g. merger control filings, investigations) and lead change;
  • Able to direct, guide and engage people to act in accordance with competition laws;
  • Customer focused with a passion for excellence and delivering on commitments;
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Able to effectively manage outside counsel;
