Our client (NYSE), is a leading provider of environmentally sustainable, systems-based, product protection solutions for e-commerce and industrial supply chains. Its mission is to help improve supply chain performance and cost while reducing environmental impact.

Automation is an important Business Unit within our client and is one crucial factor when controlling costs and raising productivity. Their range of solutions includes automated equipment designed to speed up different operations within the end-of-the line packing process.

Our client can help to analyse and improve consumables costs, seasonal volume peaks, pallet filling rates, freight optimization, and any other contributors to overall costs. They will gain for their clients new insights and a wider perspective. It means that their clients will have a packing process that is more efficient, has a lower Total Cost of Ownership, and is tailored to their own business needs

The Business Unit Automation (60 employees) is reaching the next stage of the Business Lifecycle. Their ambition is to grow with 400% over the coming 3-5 years. We are looking for someone who can reach that goal.

The position

As your business grows and develops, so do your business aims, objectives, priorities and strategies. The Automation Business Unit (complex capital goods) is a relative young Business Unit (60 employees) within the company of our client. We are looking for an entrepreneurial managing director within an organisation which aim is to grow with 400% over the coming 3-5 years

Tasks & responsibilities

Based at the company's European headquarters in the province Limburg, The Netherlands, the Business Director Automation (complex capital goods) will take a leadership role in driving and executing the company’s growth strategy for all activities in Automation. This role will be the primary leadership for all activities in Automation and is part of the European and Global Management Team while reporting to the Managing Director of Europe.

Duties:

  • Defining and executing the growth strategy for Automation globally as part of the overall company strategy and being part of the global management team
  • Managing and executing the daily operational activities of the Automation Business
  • Develop a product/innovation roadmap and prioritize R&D projects and drive to completion/commercialization
  • Strong focus on sales, marketing, product development, operations and service
  • Strong focus and manage the initiatives to improve the profitability of the Automation Business
  • Develop and implement a global installation and service network with internal or external parties
  • Securing efficient and effective support of other departments for supporting functions such as HR, IT, Finance, Logistics and other support functions
  • Actively engage with customers and potential customers to secure a customer centric approach and to drive a successful growth
  • Monitor competitor’s activities and take actions to secure that the organisation stays competitive
  • Work closely with the Director of Business Development to identify potential M&A activities for Automation
  • Support the deal team in closing acquisitions
  • When specifically called upon, entering negotiations with counterparties
  • Building relationships and working with the companies business leaders and functional heads in the context of all Automation activities
  • Travelling extensively throughout Europe, North America and Asia in pursuit of business opportunities and to coordinate activities with regional business heads

Candidate profile

  • Business acumen with a strong general management experience in the Automation Business (= complex capital goods) and proven record of being a successful leader in growing this business
  • Proven ability in managing organizations with a high level of technical expertise and need to use and develop new technologies
  • Maintain high standards of performance and integrity
  • Attention to detail and ownership of the outcome
  • Possess high levels of energy and endurance. Works well under pressure
  • Build and develop relationships and use influence at multiple levels within the company and externally
  • Interpersonal qualities demonstrating openness, being a team player, collaborative, decisive, and possessing a natural inquisitiveness about new opportunities for the future 
  • Execute for results demonstrated by possessing an extensive and distinctive track record. Persist when faced with challenging obstacles
  • Set and achieve ambitious targets for his/her area of responsibility. Demonstrates a passion for success
  • Experience in channel sales (system integrators) and direct sales
  • Experience in Packaging or related
