Tasks & responsibilities

The Regional Director (East-Africa) is responsible for the following activities:

Programmes 

  • Is responsible for the effective and efficient process of analysing and evaluating project proposals and project partners, on the basis of specific project criteria, the policy and business plan, the annual plan and budgets, in order to enter the request for approval accompanied by an advice and summary to be submitted to the programme department at the head office. 
  • To sign up and ensure the visiting of businesspartners, on the basis of a formerly fixed visiting plan, in order to monitor the program progress. 
  • Is responsible for the effective and efficient process of planning and executing the evaluation of the progress, quality and result of projects, by means of an evaluation team (including the project partner and/or other stakeholders), recording the results in an evaluation report and renewal reports on behalf of the head office. 

Networking & Fundraising 

  • Establishing and maintaining interpersonal relationships with national and international organizations in the region, including the Dutch embassies, the EU delegation, (Dutch) correspondents, media and businesses, relevant persons and parties, so that an effective network in the region is created that can directly or indirectly promote the work of Terre des Hommes. 
  • Generating revenue in the region so that the income stream of Terre des Hommes is secured. 

Accountability 

  • Examination of project progress compared to the annual plan and budgets, in order to provide quarterly reports to the Programme department on progress and deviations of projects and regional developments. 
  • Analyse both the achieved project results as developments within the region and the implications for projects in the region, looking back on the past year and ahead to the coming year, on the basis of assembled information, through the network and project visits, in order to prepare and consign an annual report and a new year planning in an annual report to the Head of Programmes as input for the policy plan. 
  • Ensure timely and accurate information on financial flows and situation of the region, in accordance with internal guidelines, to submit quarterly and annual financial reports for approval to the Head the finance. 
  • Ensure the implementation of audits of project partners, in accordance with the rules laid down in the Manual for Regional directors, as such that procedures are respected. 
  • Ensure the sending of copies of contracts which are entered and approved by the head office concerning staff members, housing, name registration and name protection of Terre des Hommes, as well as other documents, to the head office, in order to keep head office informed. 

Strategy & Quality 

  • Identifying developments in the region, with a view to campaign activities which will be carried out by the head office, passing on these signals to the appropriate parties in the organization, so that the organization with its proposition can tune up correctly and timely to the developments. 
  • Ensure strategic input for the long-term strategy of the organization taking into account the trends, opportunities and threats of the region. Also ensure knowledge sharing in the organization, both within the region and with other regional offices of Terre des Hommes and the head office in order to increase the quality of the organization. 
  • To ensure and manage sufficient qualified staff members at the Regional office taking into account the acquired competencies and guidelines, so that the work can be carried out effectively and efficiently. 
  • The Regional Director is accountable to the Chief Program Officer who is based at the Head Office in The Hague, Netherlands. The Regional Director is part of the extended Management Team of the Terre des Hommes Netherlands. 

Candidate profile

  • Academic education working and thinking 
  • A minimum of 10 years relevant work experience

  • Demonstrated experience with fundraising 
  • International experience, preferable being stationed abroad 
  • Experience with International Development and Programme management
