The company is a leading integrated logistics service provider in Nigeria. It provides customised solutions to meet clients' specific needs when importing goods into Nigeria.

The position

The Commercial Director is responsible for the sales and business development activities in the company. He/She develops and expands the relationship with existing and new clients and manages the business development activities to ensure that set targets are achieved. 

In collaboration with the shareholders and CEO, the Commercial Director develops and executes business plans with regards to growing the company’s market share with current clients, as well as acquisition of new prospects and development of additional services to create more added value for clients.

The Commercial Director leads a small sales team and reports into the CEO and shareholders.

This position is based in Ikoyi, Lagos, Nigeria.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • Develop plans for achieving the company’s sales targets, including formulation of strategies, defining the required resources, risk assessments and preparing the related budgets.
  • Ensure an appropriate commercial approach to the local market to achieve the market value share objectives and monitor the business results.
  • Supervise the formulation and implementation of the company's sales and marketing strategies.
  • Manage and deepen customer relationship with existing and prospective customers in order to increase profitability, growth, increase in market share, as well as customer loyalty and satisfaction.
  • Gather and analyze competitive data and information on potential customers, competitors and market segments, in line with business requirements to gain insights into current and future opportunities.
  • As a member of the Management Team, contribute to the clear development of the company’s corporate strategy.
  • As a member of the Management Team, contribute to the development and execution of business plans which drive business growth and position the company as the leading logistics service provider in Nigeria.

Candidate profile

  • University degree, preferable with an MBA;
  • 5 to 10 years of experience as a sales leader;
  • Successful track record in developing and motivating winning sales teams;
  • Good negotiation and presentation skills;
  • Strong networking and interpersonal skills;
  • Highly motivated, target driven and pragmatic;
  • Creativity and flexibility to thrive under pressure and continuously changing circumstances;
  • Experience working in an international/multi-cultural environment;
  • Experience working for large client accounts and multinationals;
  • Experience in the logistics sector is preferred but not a requirement.
