The position

Are you an experienced Compliance professional and are you ready to take the next step in your Compliance career? For SABIC, we are looking for a Senior Manager Compliance Europe to be based in Amsterdam (or Sittard). You will be responsible for managing SABIC's Compliance & Ethics Program in Europe, in support of a robust integrity culture. You scope of work will be diverse and challenging!

The Legal-Compliance Department within Legal Affairs consists of 19 team members currently and is responsible for managing SABIC's Compliance & Ethics Program including Trade Compliance, EHSS and ESG compliance, Litigation and compliance investigations throughout our global operations.

The Legal-Compliance Department currently has a vacancy for a highly motivated Senior Manager Compliance Europe at SABIC's office in Amsterdam and/or the European headquarters in Sittard reporting to the Chief Counsel Compliance.

Tasks & responsibilities

As a Senior Manager Compliance Europe, you'll be part of a global legal affairs team consisting of more than 100 people worldwide (of which the Legal-Compliance Department is a subset). You will be responsible for managing SABIC's Compliance & Ethics Program in Europe, in support of a robust integrity culture. You scope of work will be diverse and you will be working closely with the relevant businesses and functions within SABIC in Europe and in other regions.

Your responsibilities will include Compliance & Ethics policy management (based on SABIC's Code of Ethics), communications, training, advising, (co-)leading or supporting global and regional compliance initiatives, leading and/or coordinating compliance investigations, managing compliance systems and tools, conducting risk assessments and providing advice on mitigation requirements, engaging SABIC's internal Compliance champions network, interacting with regulatory authorities, and conducting trend analysis and reporting.

You will be part of a team with other subject matter experts, and collaborate with the Chief Counsel Europe and regional counsels actively, advise senior management on regulatory developments and requirements, and represent SABIC in relevant regulatory working groups of European associations. You will have one direct report, in the position of Compliance Counsel Europe, whom will assist you with these initiatives.

Candidate profile

• A European qualified lawyer (Master degree) with at least 8 years experience as an in-house counsel and/or in private practice in an international setting, preferably with experience in an international chemical company or related industry;
• High level of integrity; strong compliance focus and diverse knowledge of legal/ regulatory environment;
• An international, independent, pragmatic, pro-active and result-oriented attitude;
• Strong analytical skills;
• Effective communicator on all levels, able to manage and advise different stakeholders, including senior management;
• Able to manage complex and multi-disciplinary matters, both independently and as team player or leader to an ad hoc multidisciplinary team;
• Able to operate in a multi-cultural and multi-jurisdictional environment;
• Proficient in English (working language). Knowledge of Dutch or one or more other European languages is considered a plus.
